Re: 166 2,5 V6 - Sportronic - low power on low rpm..

Hi 166 friends emoticon
I have ordered a complete set of 3.0 crome intakerunners with rubber hoses and baseplate, and gaskets, form Squadra tuning. they have a supplier for used parts.
and when this is mounted, i will send the ECU for reprogramming.
Squadra tuning will have the whole ECU box. Is this normal? on my 164 its a only replaceble chip emoticon
Im worried that the ECU box will get lost in transport or something. A new one costs a lot. And when the original Chip is reprogrammed, there is no turning back. Im thinking that if i got problems with the EU test every second year, when they measure the exhaust. Im affraid I got higher levels of CO with the tuning chip in place.
Is it normal to send the whole ECU unit for remapping?
Br. Atle

Squadra needs the whole ECU to reprogram the EPROM (chip). As far as I know you can't take the EPROM out of these newer ECU's. Normally it would be in the car but since you live in another country sending the ECU to Squadra is a good solution.

As far as emission tests go; that will be fine. I've not heard of any problems regarding this with a Sqaudra tune/chip.
After the tune it's best to use Super 98 petrol. Especially with a tune you will notice the difference between 95 and 98 petrol as the tune will take the timing maps closer to the detonation point. 98 petrol will make sure you get most out the tune/engine without the knock sensors (possibly) retarding timing again.

Correct, the chip replacement is no longer done. That wass indeed the era of the 164,155,75, SZ, nowadays it is all integrated, and the whole thing needs to be reprogrammed.

If you look at the Squadra website, there is allways a way back. If problems occur, which I doubt, the Original software can allways be put back.

Offcoarse... you can also use a second ECU... You leave the Original, Original, and you get a secondhand unit which you have upgraded. You can allways swap them out if need be...

2.5 Ecu's are redily available on the secondhand market I think...

Re: 166 2,5 V6 - Sportronic - low power on low rpm..

Thanks again. So the chip is intergraded in the ECU box. Thats explains it.
Yes I had a search for used ECU yesterday and its not hard to find.
So then its not a big risk to send the ECU.
yes Ive heard that 98 is better after the reprogramming. what is the rev counter limit after reprogramming?

7200 RPM

See below link for more info (in case you haven't seen it already - yes it's in dutch but the graphs speak for itself emoticon )

Edit:
Those gains are with the 3.0 intake mod.

Re: 166 2,5 V6 - Sportronic - low power on low rpm..

Hi 166 lovers. This spring in May it will be 10 years since I bought my 166. And I still is driving it emoticon
The car has been parked away in the winters the last 5 years. And I have been driving other brands as a year around car. But I missed driving the car every winter so bad, that I sold my other brand cars, and this winter, I'm driving it all year round. Its a great winter car. Great front lights and more than usual insulation of the cupe, and a really good heating system.
The 166 - 2,5 Sportronic will never be superfast from standing still. And with just 4 gears the acceleration is a bit slow. But I dont mind anymore. the car has so many things that I like.
I've tried the 3,2 V6 in a 166, and its a bit better than my 2,5. But its never going to have the tourqe of the 3.0 V6 12 valve engine, like i had in my 164.
so...I bought a 164 QV in addition to my 166. I have bought the 3.2 inlet pipes for my 166, but i have not mounted it yet.
Its a bit could these days. Minus 12 - 23 degree to be exact. So no car mending at the moment. It has to wait until the spring comes.
My 166 has now 218.000km at the clock and is running just fine. here are the most resent picture of it. Just washed it, and its 15 degree minus outside, when the pictures is taken. still looking great emoticon
Image
The 164 QV is a 1992, with a complete Recaro interor. sunroof, and full clima controll system, and rear seating heater. This one kickes ass, and is real fun to drive. But strictly in summer times emoticon
